Monica Mira is a PhD student of the University of Evora in Portugal working currently in her thesis “Usefulness of Non-Invasive and Objective Methodologies to Assess the Welfare of Horses during Endurance Competitions”. She graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Lisbon, Portugal, undertook an internship in equine surgery at the Washington State University and an assistantship at the CIRALE in Normandy, France, with. Prof. Jean-Marie Denoix. She was the founder of one of the most successful ambulatory practices in Portugal, where she worked as a clinician until 2016. Soon she became involved in the endurance sport working regularly in international competitions worldwide as FEI official veterinarian for endurance and treating veterinarian, which provided her a deep knowledge of the sport
